Brief biography

Andrea holds a M.S. in Sociology from Iowa State University. Throughout her career, Andrea has worked in non-profits, higher education, and local communities on issues of justice and community.  As an activist and professional, she has focused on the intersecting issues of gender violence, anti-racism, economic justice, aging and care work, and community responses to immigration and the climate crisis.   She is a founding member of the Greater La Crosse Area Diversity Council.

Andrea Hansen, Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies, received the award for Recognition of 13 years of service from Greater La Crosse Area Diversity Council . Hansen was recognized as a founding member of the Greater La Crosse Area Diversity Council at the Council's annual meeting in January. In 2007, UWL Continuing Extension (now Extended Learning) received UW-Extension grants for Andrea to develop workforce diversity programs for area employees. Now in its 13th year, the council offers programming, community collaborations and a speakers bureau. Hansen provided leadership as a member and officer of the Board of Directors until her resignation in September. Thomas Harris (OMSS) serves on the board. Jodi Vandenberg-Daves, Ph.D. (WGSS) was the Council's Executive Director, 2015-2018. Arlette Rodriquez-Miller is the current Executive Director. UWL is a member of the Council.

Hansen, gave insights on supporting student parents in UWL's Self Sufficiency Program. Insight into Diversity, is the oldest and largest diversity magazine and website in higher education.
