Brief biography

Professional:

I am a Full Professor of Operations & Supply  Chain Management and have been teaching for thirty years.  I have authored or co-authored greater 127 peer-reviewed publications in the field.  Prior to life as an academic I was a Global Supply Chain Manager at Generals Motors Corporation, specifically in the GMC/Chevy Truck Division.   I also have experience as a Reporter/Stringer for the Associated Press, where I covered the Packers (10 years), Vikings (2 years), Brewers, and Wisconsin Football, professional golf, professional auto racing, college football and basketball, amongst others.  I worked in Sales Management for several firms, as well.  While a graduate student I worked at the Physical Science Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, a facility that was created at the end of World War II to test and evaluate V-2 rockets the US had captured from Germany.  I worked in rocket telemetry and in knowledge transfer.  I have been involved in the MBA Consortium for the University of Wisconsin since its inception (2000-2001) and have taught several classes.  I was a Visiting Professor at London South Bank University.

I have a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management, with minors in Econometrics and Statistics; an MBA in Business Management, with minors in Logistics and Marketing; two Associate Degree Certificates in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering I earned while managing at General Motors, and a Bachelor's of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in Advertising and an emphasis in Psychology.

Personal:

Other than teaching and researching, I enjoy raising German Shepherds and Huskies. I currently have one German Shepherd (Xaanten Verena), one GSD/Husky/Duck Toller mix (Chaos), and a miniature Husky (Rizzo) that was supposed to be 12 pounds fully grown--he is currently 50 pounds - larger than many full huskies!!  I have taught my dogs to play football!  Based on the number I call, my GSD Xaanten runs one of nine routes!  She either catches the football in her jaws or traps it with her paws. I am an avid Sports fan.  My teams are Manchester City (Premier League), Red Bull Racing/Max Verstappen and Daniel Riccardo (Formula 1 Racing), LA Dodgers (MLB), Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Wolves (NBA), Minnesota Vikings (NFL). I also love to golf and bike, riding about 100 miles per week.  I play at least one chess match daily and once beat a Top 100 World-ranked Chess Master!  I also collect old books - hundreds of years old!  I also enjoy drawing wolves and dogs (pencil on canvas), and I create still cartoons of numerous animals.  I recently sold two pencil on canvas drawings of wolves.  I also design tattoos, and recently sold one to one of the best tattooists in the country, and created a second tattoo design based on a cartoon Lobo (wolf) I drew when I was 9 years old!  I love watching documentaries and my favorite are WWII docs, World's Most Dangerous Roads, and Travel docs. I am married to Donna since 1989, and have two adult daughters both of whom are in law school, Katie (Minnesota) and Karen (Illinois), both of whom work at Public Healh Law Center - New York.  My hobbies include biking, working out, drawing, logic/maths puzzles, and teaching my pack to play football.  I played semi-pro baseball for the Albuquerque Cowboys and New Mexico Scorpions and college football for the NM Lobos.  I have a twin brother who is an NFL writer for the Western US based in Denver.  I own both season tickets to the Minnesota Vikings and stock in the Green Bay Packers.

I love to talk to students about career goals and experiences that highlight what they are learning.  I also love to talk about logic and maths puzzles and strategies from the foundation of playing Chess! I like to start many of my in-person classes with maths puzzles I call MatheMagic or simply Math Magic- perchance I will share some of these in the Discussions or Announcements just for fun this semester.  I also enjoy guiding graduate students to get their research published, and have guided over 20 MBA students in such endeavors. Let's have a great semester!

Cheers ~ Drew
