Brief biography

Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, I studied Sociology and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) in the city. I taught ESL to K-6 students for four years in St. Paul, then moved to La Crosse in the fall of 2019 to teach ESL in Holmen. In the fall of 2021, I began working as a lecturer for the ESL program here at UWL, and have since taught both ESL and education courses. I have tutored adults since 2013, both in and outside of the United States, from various language backgrounds including Hmong, Karen, Somali, Tigrinya, Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, French, Spanish, Hindi, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Greek, and Tagalog. I enjoy learning about language and education; the global impact of English as a world language and its relationship to education fascinates me. I travel often and have been to 60 countries so far. Two regions of the world I am looking forward to visiting next are East and Southern Africa. I love everything about traveling including learning about different cultures, eating many different foods and cuisines, and hearing the stories of each person I meet.
