Brief biography
My name is Nikki Miller and I'm a Police Sergeant at UW-La Crosse PD. I am married with two children and I have been in law enforcement for over 25 years. When I'm not working I love spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy camping, working out, biking, traveling with my family, and playing golf.
Education
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in counseling from Viterbo University. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration at UW-Platteville. In June 2024 I graduated from the WI Department of Justice/UW-Madison Command College #10 and became a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager.
Career
Teaching history
I am an adjunct instructor at Western Technical College in the Law Enforcement and Jail Academies. I am a Master Instructor Trainer in Defensive Tactics for the law enforcement and jail academies. I'm also certified to teach Professional Communication Skills, Vehicle Contacts, Scenario Instructor, Axon (TASER) Instructor, and general law enforcement and jail curriculum.
Professional history
I began my career in law enforcement at the La Crosse County Juvenile Detention Facility. My interest in law enforcement grew and I transferred to the La Crosse County Sheriff's Office as a jailer. While working as a jailer, I attended Western Technical College's Law Enforcement Academy, and after graduation I became a police officer at UW-La Crosse PD. After four years of service at UW-La Crosse, I became a police officer at the Onalaska Police Department. I pursued a different path in the profession of law enforcement and became a full time instructor in Western's Criminal Justice Associate Degree Program. In 2018 I returned to UW-La Crosse PD as a part-time officer and was promoted to Sergeant in June 2020.
