At the Fitness Center, we're dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for the entire UWL community. Our programs are designed to inspire and empower people of all abilities and interests to embrace wellness through the joy of movement.
We understand that starting your fitness journey can feel overwhelming, which is why we've created a welcoming space where everyone can feel comfortable and supported. With 15,000 square feet of space and over 145 units of cardio and resistance equipment, there's something for everyone here. Our intentional layout ensures that new users feel at ease, with designated lower-intensity areas and live user counts to help you navigate your workout with confidence.
Services
Fitness Fundamentals
This free service provides you the fundamentals needed to begin safe and effective resistance training. Inquire to sign up for your 30-minute session with a certified personal trainer. You can even bring a friend!
Strength Redefined
Every other Tuesday night from 6-7:30pm the Fitness Center closes to regular users to provide a welcoming atmosphere where newcomers or those apprehensive about the gym can start their fitness journey as they please. We welcome everyone who supports this experience for others, regardless of experience level. Register Here.
Personal Training
Do you want to grow your confidence and experience in the Fitness Center while establishing consistent exercise routines?
Our certified trainers will help you set realistic goals and build a customized program to achieve them. Whether you want to run your first 5k, learn how to back squat, or possibly ramp up your training for a competition we’ll match you with a trainer that best meets your needs. View Dedicated Page Here

THE 6 ZONES
Machines
- 35 different selectorized cable machines
Cardio
- 55 pieces of cardio equipment including elliptical, treadmills, rowers, bikes, and stair climbers
Free Weight Zone
- Dumbbells ranging from 2.5-50lb
- 1 Squat Rack
- 10 Fixed Curl bars ranging from 20-60lb
The Turf
- A 25 x 8-yard piece of artificial turf for circuit training, stretching and core.
- 10 yards of rig system containing monkey bars, ninja grip training, TRX and resistance bands
- 40 Kettlebells ranging from 5-70lb
- 20 medicine balls ranging from 5-20lb
- 2 soft adjustable plyo- boxes ranging from 20-30 inches
- Check out items to include: foam rollers, mini therabands, ab rollers, La Crosse balls, lifting straps, weightlifting and powerlifting belts.
The Racks
- 7 dual-sided squat racks (14 individual stations)
- 7 designated inlaid platforms for barbell work
- 1 Eleiko designated Olympic training platform
- 1 Texas Strength Systems competition powerlifting combo rack
- Dumbbells ranging from 10lb to 125lb
- Leg press, glute ham raise machine, preacher curl benches and plate loaded glute trainer
Personal training room
- Private room for clients only
- Contains squat rack, cable machine, and dumbbells.
- Train up to 2 clients at a time
Policies
- All patrons work out at their own risk.
- Backpacks and duffle bags are not allowed in the Fitness Center. Please secure all belongings in a hallway locker.
- Absolutely no unsupervised lifting (i.e., using the personal training room without a trainer present).
- Patrons should observe proper spotting procedures and lifting techniques. If you need a spot, please ask a staff member who would be happy to assist you.
- Equipment is not to be abused or used haphazardly (e.g., slamming weight down and dropping dumbbells).
- No barbells allowed on turf except for fixed weight curl bars.
- Lifting chalk may be used in the lower level and turf rig system only.
- Patrons are required to clean up after themselves (i.e., return weights when finished, clean-up chalk, and wipe down machines after use).
- Equipment may not be altered or removed from the Fitness Center, unless under the direction of a uniformed Rec Sports Personal Trainer.
- Personal training or private instruction at any Rec Sports facility is restricted to those individuals who are specifically employed by Rec Sports for this purpose.
- Drinks in a sealable, non-glass container are only permitted.
- Collars/Clips must be used on all free weight lifts.
- No solicitation is allowed.
- Report on any injury or maintenance needs to staff.
- The REC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Recreational Sports reserves the right to revoke privileges to anyone who refuses to comply with the policies.
