Financial Management Series

The Financial Management Certificate Series is a series of classes for small business owners looking to learn more about financial statements, financial projections, financial terminology, and cash flow management strategies.

The certificate program has three sessions. You do not need to attend all three sessions; you can take only the sessions you are interested in attending. If you complete all three sessions, you will receive a certificate of completion.

QuickBooks® Series

There are two QuickBooks classes, offered on multiple dates. To register for workshops, click here, specify Topic: Business Accounting and Budget, and click Search.  Then click on the Register button next to the program name.  If you have questions or need assistance with registering, send an email to sbdc@uwlax.edu.  

The QuickBooks classes will be held as webinars.  The webinars are FREE but registration is required.  

QuickBooks - An Introduction to Accounting Software

This program will introduce you to QuickBooks, an accounting software system used by many small businesses. It will provide details on the accounting software and options for using this software system, including its various functions that: • Perform general ledger accounting activities, including accounts receivable and payable • Track information to support basic tax filings • Support bank reconciliation • Help manage cash flow This program will introduce options available for accounting software (online and desktop versions) as well as special features that are available.

QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a training program that will demonstrate how to use this accounting software system to help manage the financial side of your business.
The program will show participants how this software system helps a business:

• Perform general ledger accounting activities, including income, invoices and deposits, accounts receivable and payable, bills and expenses
• Connect to your online bank account
• Track information to support basic tax filings
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliation
• Manage cash flow
• Support other financial aspects of a business, such as payroll, track time and effort, etc.
• Learn how to set up QBO for your business
• Explore Tips, Tricks and Applied Examples using QBO
• Learn QBO options, pricing and where to find QBO training and support online

This program will provide a general overview of the QBO accounting system and how to navigate it. Participants completing this more in depth training will have the opportunity to obtain one on one consulting support to help get started or transition to this accounting software system.

Instructor: Kaitlin Holton

Kaitlin Holton, owner of Holton Bookkeeping, is a Quickbooks Online Certified ProAdvisor.  She is passionate about small business. She has nine years of bookkeeping experience and four years of entrepreneurial experience. In early 2019, Kaitlin started Holton Bookkeeping, a bookkeeping firm geared towards small, local businesses and has worked with a variety of local and regional clients since then. She understands that when you own a small business, your most precious resource is time. Bookkeeping support can help you get some of that time back so you can get back to running your business.
