Writing Center Tutors

We look for a variety of majors (you do NOT need to be an English major!) and hire in the spring (April/May) for the following school year. Fill out an online application by Monday, March 31st. We will be in touch about an interview shortly after March 31.

Requirements & Position Information

To apply for a Writing Center Tutor position, you should: 

  • Be in strong academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher) 
  • Be able to enroll in a one-credit training course, ENG 299 during Fall semester
  • Be able to work on campus approximately 5 hours/week 
  • Be interested in continuing to tutor for more than one academic year (be of freshman, sophomore, or junior standing)
  • Provide two references from UWL faculty and one writing sample

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate conversational, inquiry-driven one-on-one tutoring sessions with writers in a wide variety of courses, in various stages of their writing process
  • Maintain session notes and records; regularly reflect on tutoring practices in an effort to improve 
  • Attend occasional meetings with WC staff 
  • Attend occasional campus events as a WC representative 
  • Collaborate to design workshop materials and writing resources for students 
  • Support the Writing Center mission
