Campus news, Campus connection

A page within University Marketing & Communications

What does the News & Marketing team do?

The News & Marketing team shares the story of UW-La Crosse. We write about campus research, major awards and other news that reflects societal trends, promotes our leadership or demonstrates our connection to the community. We also serve to inform, entertain and connect the campus community.

Where?

  • UWL campus news a.k.a. Campus Connection Monday email to campus and always available on the Campus Connection webpage.
  • College publications: Building Bridges, Capstone, College of Science & Health News and Eagle Edge.
  • Alumni news: Lantern magazine and Light Reads (monthly alumni e-newsletter)
  • News releases sent to local, statewide or national media
  • University social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn

We want to hear your story!

But first … consider the types of ideas our team is most likely to share.

Almost always:

  • Major university-wide initiatives such as One Day for UWL, Social Justice Week and Eagle Fest.
  • Topics with lasting news value, such as human-interest stories, rather than time-sensitive events.
  • Topics with broad appeal beyond the university, and with the potential to be highlighted in the Lantern and our other news publications.

When staff is available:

  • Events that are open to the greater La Crosse community, including media. (In this case, we may be able to help generate media interest in your event.)
  • News and events that are linked to trending topics statewide or nationally such as rising inflation rates or the mental health crisis.
  • News and events linked to UWL research that promote UWL’s thought leadership in a specific area such as physics education.

How should I promote my event?

While News & Marketing infrequently covers events, submitting complete and detailed information on the Share form will provide our team more information to determine our coverage plans. Due to limited staff availability, requests for evening or weekend coverage are likely to be declined.
