What is Web Services?
UWL’s Web Services is a group of professional Web content strategists, designers and developers, responsible for guiding and coordinating the campus website. Web Services is a part of University Communications, within the Advancement division.
Trainings & resources
We provide web editor training opportunities and lessons to give individuals on campus the ability to edit their website. Learn more about our lessons.
We also build and maintain UWL Share which is a one-stop-shop for submitting events, announcements, digital signs and more. Another popular feature is the profile editor which is useful for the campus community and beyond to learn about you and your expertise.

- The UWL website is expected to meet all Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2 Level AA requirements

- Web editors are expected to maintain files as publicly accessible articles (sensitive or private information should not be uploaded to the website)
- The website is not meant to act as an archive
- Unused documents/files older than 3 years will be deleted
Content block management
- Unused content blocks older than 3 years will be deleted

Web editor access
- Web editor access must be requested through UComm
- A maximum of two web editors are allowed per unit
- Student web editor access is granted only under certain circumstances
- Department staff are responsible for supporting their students
- UComm requires the student's supervisor be CC'd on all communications between the department and UComm
- A student should not be the primary editor
- Web editors are expected to familiarize themselves with the training materials provided at the time access is granted
- Failure to view the trainings may result in removal of web editor access
- Academic department web editors should check with their Deans assistant for immediate assistance, after which UComm will be brought in if needed
General
- No external website affiliated with UWL should imitate or use the same template as currently displayed within uwlax.edu - external websites should adhere to a simplified, yet related visual look to differentiate between official uwlax.edu content and vendor supported content. (ex. https://myhealth.uwlax.edu/)
- UComm can not guarantee support web integrations for solutions that were purchased or acquired prior to our review. Some systems/solutions may not be technically possible to integrate with uwlax.edu and UComm should be consulted first.
