Spaces & Amenities

A page within Student Union

The Student Union is often referred to as the living room of our university. It is where students, faculty, and staff can come together for informal interactions, as a place to relax, eat, and recreate. It is important that the Student Union provides a safe and supportive space for all who enter - a place that fosters increased understanding of all people, and where students can feel at home.

The Student Union provides limitless opportunities to relax and recharge, and we invite you to come explore! Take a look at some of the amenities this beautiful building has to offer!

Balconies

The Union has 3 separate balconies for you to enjoy throughout the warmer months. These spaces are great for studying, hanging out with friends, or grabbing a quick lunch between classes. You can access these balconies from the second and third floors of the Union!

Commuter Lounge

The Commuter Lounge is located in the lower level of the Union, near the Game Arcade. The Commuter Lounge is like a home-away-from-home for commuter students, with a small kitchen and study area for you to relax in throughout the day!

Family Room

The Student Union strives to make a welcoming environment for everyone who enters our doors. On the first floor, across from the Credit Union, we have our Family Room! It is a private space available to parents who might need to nurse, pump, change a diaper, or simply take a break from the hustle and bustle of campus life. The Family Room is equipped with multiple seating options, a large countertop, as well as a sink.

The COVE

The COVE stands for The Center for Organizations, Vision, & Engagement. We are your campus Student Organization & Leadership Hub! Looking to make friends or get involved? UWL has over 200 student orgs for you to explore. Regardless of your interests, we have a little bit of everything for you to choose from!

In addition, they can assist with scheduling classrooms (when classes are not scheduled), fundraisers, and outdoor events. AVLS consists of experienced technicians who help Student Organizations develop and produce events of all sizes. Staff are trained to assist with anything from playing background music for an event to providing full concert production support.

Campus Food Pantry

The Leadership & Involvement Center (LIC) coordinates the food pantry on campus that is available to UWL students, faculty, and staff. The Food Pantry is located in 2220 Student Union, inside the COVE.

Some examples of food in the food pantry are tuna, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, pasta noodles, soup, vegetables, and fruit.

For more information, please visit the Campus Food Pantry website.

Veterans Lounge

The UW-La Crosse Veterans Center is the central hub for our veterans on campus. One of the biggest issues facing combat veterans is social isolation. Many of these combat veterans have difficulty adjusting to civilian life, especially adjusting to college. We have over 250 veterans on campus, many who have just recently returned from deployments around the world.

All are welcome to come check out the center anytime. See how we treat our brave men and women who have served our great nation in war and in peace. We stand ready to help those who have served transition back to civilian life.

The Center provides a relaxing place for veterans and their dependents to meet, receive the latest benefits information, coordinate with the Veterans Club, have workshops and meet with veterans service organizations.

Students have access to a coffee maker, computers, comfortable couches, and a large lending library.

More information can be found on the Veteran Services webpage.

Entertainment Café

From hypnotists and comedians to watching sporting events on the big screen, there will always be something to keep you entertained in the E-Café! The E-Café is also a great place to eat, study, and hang with your friends!

All events will be posted on the University Event Calendar.  UWL's Campus Activities Board (CAB) plans the majority of these events.
