Eagle Excellence in Leadership Awards

The annual spring Eagle Excellence in Leadership Awards provide a dedicated occasion to acknowledge and pay tribute to our campus's student leaders. We are privileged to witness our students taking the lead in diverse roles. These awards are designed to create a moment of reflection, appreciation, and gratitude for the exceptional contributions made by student leaders who enrich our campus daily.

Nominations typically open each February, and are due in late March. We will celebrate our student leaders at an event in early May each academic year. Below is a list of award categories that individuals may nominate for as well as additional awards that are selected directly by sponsoring campus partners.

Awards & Nomination Forms

The Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award is awarded to an advisor of a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) who has positively impacted the student organization and the University community. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated strong advising skills, is readily available to students, and finds ways to support the RSO’s student leadership. This advisor will have gone above and beyond advisor duties and has found creative ways to balance their role at the University with their role as Student Organization Advisor.  

Nomination Form

The Servant Leader Award recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to their Recognized Student Organization (RSO) without holding an executive position. This student has served as a role model for their peers and has positively impacted the organization and campus community. The recipient of this award would have exhibited dedication to their organization through a service-minded approach to work, and has helped to foster community among members of the organization. This award is open to any member of a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) who does not hold a position in the respective organization.

The Student Organization of the Year Award is awarded to a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) which has impacted the UWL community through membership development, leadership, programming, and service. This organization demonstrates a commitment to the University’s mission, vision, and values, and has made considerable contributions beyond their organization, either through philanthropy, service, or student engagement events. The recipient organization must be in good standing with the Student Organizations Committee and will not have received this award during the previous academic year.

The Aerie Award, affectionately named after a “group of eagles”, is designed to recognize a collective of students who have gone above and beyond during the academic year. This award recognizes a group outside of Recognized Student Organizations (RSO’s) Recipients of this award would have committed to a high standard of service, demonstrated dedication to the University (and departmental if applicable) mission, vision, and values, and would have positively impacted the University community. This award is open to any formal group of students, including but not limited to: student employees, athletics team, program or event volunteers, etc.

The Emerging Eagle Award is meant to recognize up to two freshmen or sophomore (<60 credits) students who have shown commitment to getting involved in campus and community life. Recipients will have been involved in 1 or more extracurricular or co-curricular activities and have demonstrated their potential as leaders in these areas of campus life.

Stryker’s Student Leader Award will recognize up to two Junior or Senior (60+ credits) students who have shown continued commitment to campus involvement. Recipients will have made considerable contributions to campus and community life, taken on at least 1 formal leadership role on campus, and have committed to finding new ways to engage their peers on campus and in the community. These students have inspired the growth and development of others and gone above and beyond designated duties and expectations in the position(s) they hold.

The Eagle Advocate Award is designed to acknowledge the work of up to two students at any point in their academic career who have made contributions to campus and community life regarding DEI, social justice, public policy, environmental stewardship and/or community advocacy. These individuals will have embraced a commitment to diversity and inclusion through program design, research, or involvement opportunities which prioritize a community free from discrimination. Recipients positively impact campus and community members, and support peers in their awareness of diverse identities, intersectionality, and varying perspectives in order to better understand and live within complex and diverse communities.

The “Mens Corpusque (Mind and Body) Award is meant to recognize up to three graduating seniors. Recipients will have shown a commitment to the University’s motto in their words and actions throughout their time at UWL. Award recipients will have demonstrated an embrace of holistic education, dedicating their time and energy towards opportunities that enable growth physically, mentally, and beyond. The students receiving this award have also shown a commitment to encouraging and supporting their peers to embrace the University’s motto as well and have taken on both formal and informal leadership roles on campus and in the community to do so. This award is open to any student with a projected graduation date of May of the current academic year, or December of the following academic year.
