Eagle Guides assist with the implementation of START and/or New Student Orientation. Eagle Guides are well-respected, academically balanced leaders on campus. They are chosen based on their current and potential academic, interpersonal, and leadership qualities.

START Eagle Guides

START is the process of engaging, informing, and assisting all new students and their guests (parents, family, friends, and other supporting figures) through the essential transition to a successful college experience. START Eagle Guides aid the facilitation of this process by providing new students, parents, and guests with an engaging introduction welcoming folks to campus and presenting in short sessions helpful resources that are integral to student success at UWL.

2024 START Dates

  • June 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21, and 24.

Students who serve as START Eagle Guides will have the option to serve as NSO Eagle Guides, but are not required to serve in that capacity.

New Student Orientation (NSO) Eagle Guides welcomes over 2,200 new first-year and transfer students! The position exists to welcome and acclimate new students to the campus during New Student Orientation. The role consists of assisting with move-in weekend, promoting interaction among groups of new students by facilitating icebreakers and small group discussions on college transition-related concerns and opportunities, and being a part of NSO events. The time commitment is concentrated during Labor Day Weekend.

Lead Eagle Guides are Eagle Guides with additional leadership responsibilities. Leads will act as mentors to Eagle Guides, serve as liaisons between New Student and Family Programs and campus partners, provide feedback and plan components of the START and New Student Orientation programs, and recruit and assist in the hiring process for Eagle Guides.
