Dumpster Diversion diverts a lotThe La Crosse County landfill will see a lot less furniture — and neighborhoods around campus look a lot less junky — all thanks to the university’s Move Out Sustainability Team. Over two weekends earlier this month, MOST held the Dumpster Diversion — setting up drop-off sites in the campus area for students. The event was an enormous success, says Andrew Londre, co-founder of MOST and County Board Supervisor. Read more |

The inspirational stories of five wounded warriors from Wisconsin will be featured during Freedom Fest June 15, thanks to assistance from officials with the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR). Freedom Fest is an annual event that attracts thousands to the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex at UW-L for celebration and commemoration of veterans and service members. The WWR provides and facilitates non-medical assistance to wounded, ill and injured (WII) marines and sailors, attached to or in support of marine units, and their family members. Headquartered in Virginia, the WWR provides non-medical care and support throughout the service member's recovery, aiming to ensure all WII marines get all of the benefits they are entitled. “The majority of these Marines have joined during a time of war, so they knew they could die, but they went forward anyway. These are incredible, incredible people who have volunteered their life or something higher than their life,” says Gunnery Sergeant Michael Gillitzer, district injured support coordinator with the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. Freedom Fest tickets are available at www.FreedomFestLaCrosse.com or any local Festival Foods location.Participate in Jeans Day May 31
Wear LIVEMAROON gear
UW-L is one of many local organizations to participate in the monthly “Jeans Day,” sponsored by the La Crosse Tribune. One or two local charities or organizations are designated each month to receive donations. In return for a one dollar (suggested donation), participants have the privilege of wearing jeans. The next Jeans Day is Friday, May 31. Donations are welcome even if you don’t wear jeans. You're also encouraged to wear LIVEMAROON gear or other maroon clothing. This is a small way to join together and give back big to the local community. In April UW-L raised $95. The charities receiving the March contributions are the United Fund for the Arts and RSVP.
