The La Crosse County Tavern League has given a generous financial gift to the UW-La Crosse Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The group of local small business owners has made a year-end gift of $1,500 to the UW-L Foundation to recognize veterans and further its support for the new athletic complex.
There’s a chance the gift could more than double. The League has applied to both the Tavern League of Wisconsin and the 3rd District Tavern League of Wisconsin for matching funds for the gift. Along with hosting the WIAA?State High School Track and Field Tournament, the new facility, with its Veterans Hall of Honor, is quickly becoming a magnet that draws more fans and visitors to new and old events.
Al Trapp, president of the UW-L Foundation, says the La Crosse County Tavern League supports the campus and its students in many other ways as well. Among the support are contributions to Operation River Watch and efforts to provide safe transportation between campus and downtown.
"These are concerned, responsible business people who care about the community and their customers," notes Trapp. “The Foundation is happy to work with the League to share its commitment to the sports complex that has quickly become a wonderful campus and community asset.”
