New sculpture unveiled during Freedom Fest

Freedom Fest will be held at the new Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex for the first time this year and will include unveiling a new exhibit in the Veterans Memorial Stadium Hall of Honor.

Centennial Hall opening ceremony slated for Aug. 31

Fall 2011 marks a wonderful time for UW-L with the opening of the new academic building, Centennial Hall. A formal building dedication and ceremony will be held Aug. 31 in conjunction with Chancellor Joe Gow’s All-University Address. The Centennial Hall Dedication Committee is planning the event. Statistical Consulting Center is open this summer

The Statistical Consulting Center is open this summer and is now housed in 1023 Cowley Hall under the direction of Assistant Professor Sherwin Toribio. The center provides statistical services, including advice and assistance in research design, data modeling and analysis, and interpretation of statistical results. It is open to UW-L faculty and staff, master’s level students and undergraduate researchers. Under faculty supervision, the center provides an opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience with data and statistical problems, while providing support for the UW-L campus community. Two retirement receptions slated

A retirement reception for Sharyn Lehrke, Records and Registration, will be from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, in the Ward Room, Cartwright Center. There will be a short presentation at 3 p.m. A retirement reception for Debbie Veglahn, Administration and Finance, is set for 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, in Port O’ Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Veglahn is retiring from UW-L after almost 37 years of service. Vianden, Jörg, Student Affairs Administration/Psychology, co-edited a recently released special edition of the Journal of College & University Student Housing on Faculty and Housing Academic Partnerships. Transfer opportunities

Six full-time (100 percent) custodians in Custodial Maintenance, Centennial Hall. These positions are represented by the WSEU, Blue Collar Non-Building Trades bargaining unit. The pay schedule and range are 03/08. All of the above positions require the ability to frequently lift 50 pounds for frequent furniture/equipment moving, carrying supplies up and down stairs, as well as the maintenance of sidewalks, etc. during inclement weather. Seeking Assistant Director, Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office is seeking an assistant director of financial aid. This position will be responsible for supporting the FAO in all aspects of financial aid administration for current and prospective students and will maintain the day-to-day responsibility for the PeopleSoft financial aid module, overseeing all systems/operations as they relate to need analysis, awarding and disbursement of all student financial aid, including scholarships. The position will be responsible for awarding and disbursement criteria and for managing the automation and set up of all processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency. This position will serve as the technical expert on the PeopleSoft financial aid module and its interfaces with the Department of Education systems. In addition, the Assistant Director will have responsibility for a specific percentage of financial aid applicants including counseling, need analysis and all aspects of awarding. The assistant director will report to, and work closely with, the director of financial aid to formulate, implement, review and evaluate policies, procedures and standards to ensure departmental compliance with Financial Aid guidelines and objectives. Required: Bachelor’s degree; substantial experience in a financial aid office; proven knowledge of Title IV regulations and programs; and strong technology skills. Experience with federal processing systems and knowledge of financial aid management systems is a must. Preferred: PeopleSoft experience; Familiarity with document imaging and associated workflows; five or more years of experience in a financial aid office.
