A floating legal holiday occurs when a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, and the following Monday is also a legal holiday.
Sunday, December 24, 2023 (Christmas Eve) and Sunday, December 31, 2023 (New Year's Eve) are floating legal holidays which eligible employees must use by the deadline.
A floating legal holiday occurs when a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, and the following Monday is also a legal holiday. The Sunday legal holiday will be available for eligible employees to use as floating legal holiday. Eligible employees are granted eight hours of floating legal holiday (prorated, if part-time).
- University Staff employees must use these floating legal holidays by December 31, 2023, the end of the calendar year in which they were granted. If floating legal holidays are not used, they are lost and cannot be carried over into the new calendar year.
- Faculty, Academic Staff, and Limited appointees must use these floating legal holidays by June 30, 2024, the end of the fiscal year in which they were granted. If floating legal holidays are not used, they are lost and cannot be carried over into the new fiscal year. Faculty, academic staff, and limited appointees in an academic-year basis appointment are not eligible for floating legal holidays.
The UW System will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024, to observe these legal holidays.
