Seven UWL students have been selected to share their insights of six research projects on a state stage — the 14th Annual Research in the Rotunda. Students from across the state will display posters about their research from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in the Capitol Rotunda at the State Capitol. UW System President Ray Cross will give remarks at noon. Each year, state legislators join UW System and institutional leaders in welcoming students and faculty mentors to the Capitol. Undergraduates from the System’s 26 campuses set up poster displays and share the findings of their diverse research subjects. Many topics involved multiple academic years of study and collaboration with faculty mentors and community partners throughout Wisconsin. UWL students attending, and their projects, include:

• “Anti-van der Waerden Numbers on Grid Graphs,” Hunter Rehm, Dousman.
• “Comparison of Responses to Mental and Physical Stress between Second Generation Hmong Americans and White American Peers,” Gaokhia Yang, Holmen.
• “Faunal Remains as an Indicator of Change in Social Stratification at PecicaSantul Mare,” Brett Meyer, Chilton.
• “Methylmercury Contamination in the Lower Food Web of At-Risk Minnesota Rivers,” Khadel Akindoloire-King, Eau Claire, and Marissa Despins, Stoughton.
• “The Effects of a Ketogenic Diet on Body Composition in Resistance Training Females,” Marissa Stehly, McFarland.
• “Who Got There First? Effects of Yeast/Bacterial Colonization Patterns on Biofilm Structure in Kombucha, a Food Product and Potential Model for Studies in Multispecies Biofilm Formation,” Benjamin Schilz, South Milwaukee.
