View partial solar eclipse Oct. 23 with UW-L Planetarium staff, La Crosse Area Astronomical Society

Posted 3:49 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014

UW-L Planetarium staff and the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society will be at two sites to view the partial solar eclipse, Oct. 23. The public is welcome.

UW-L's Planetarium staff and the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society (LCAAS) will coordinate free observation sites for the public — if skies are clear — of a partial solar eclipse Thursday, Oct. 23, from Grandad Bluff Park, 3020 Grandad Bluff Rd. The group will also have scopes with filters at an LCAAS booth at the English Lutheran Church's Community Wellness Fair at 1509 King St. The solar eclipse begins at 4:29 p.m. Viewing will start at 4:30 p.m. Mid-eclipse — 60 percent coverage of the sun by the moon — is at 5:45. The eclipse ends at 6:52, but La Crosse area observers will not be able to see it after sunset at 6:10 p.m. For more information, contact UW-L Planetarium Director Bob Allen at allen.robe@uwlax.edu.
