Fall Career Fair is Oct. 7
Connect with prospective employers at the Fall Career Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. The fair is free and open to all students. Learn about becoming a Peace Corps volunteer Oct. 7
UWL has had more than 250 Peace Corps volunteers since the corps was founded in 1961. Why not consider being the next volunteer? Those considering joining these alumni and becoming a Peace Corps volunteer can find out more at an informational meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Skogen Auditorium, 1400 Centennial Hall. The event is sponsored by UWL Career Services. Peace Corps volunteers help communities improve education and youth development, resources for women, family incomes, food production, environmental conservation, HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention, clean water accessibility, and much more. Peace Corps volunteers gain valuable cross-cultural skills and become citizens of the world. Other benefits include full health and dental coverage in service, graduate school programs, and federal employment advantage. Volunteers of all backgrounds and ages serve in a variety of fields in more than 60 countries. Peace Corps volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age, but there is no upper age limit.David Gilmour's 'Rattle That Lock' to be featured at the Oct. 9 Album Encounters; ‘The Explorers' is the October Public Program
The next Album Encounters multimedia light and laser show will feature David Gilmour's "Rattle That Lock" at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in 20 Cowley Hall. Admission is $5. The Planetarium’s Public Program for October is "The Explorers." The talk on the current evening sky, followed by a multimedia audiovisual presentation, will be at 1 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. Whitney George, Mathematics, presented the talk “Visualizing Calculus: From Epsilon-Delta to Solids of Revolution” at the inaugural 2015 Conference on Research and Innovation in Teaching Mathematics with Technology, July 20-21 in La Crosse. Whitney George and Nathan Warnberg, both Mathematics, attended the National Association of Math Circles inaugural Workshop in Denver, Sept. 10-12. George and Warnberg also volunteered for the Julia Robinson Math Festival (with 350 5th-8th graders from Colorado) Sept. 11. Christine Hippert, Archaeology and Anthropology, presented "'But I’m Not A Racist!' Friction, Global Interconnections, and Everyday Dominican-Haitian Interpersonal Relations in the Dominican Republic," at the annual meetings of the North Central Council of Latin Americanists at Carroll University, Waukesha, Sept. 26. Edward D. Kim, Mathematics, co-authored the article "Combinatorics and geometry of transportation polytopes: An update" in Contemporary Mathematics (volume on Discrete Geometry and Algebraic Combinatorics), volume 625, pages 37-76, August 2014. Víctor M. Flexible Spending Account informational sessions
The IRS allows participants to contribute to flexible spending accounts or FSA through payroll deductions taken out on a pre-tax basis. The money is deducted from your pay before federal and state income taxes and Social Security have been withheld, resulting in lowered taxable income and a reduction in taxes. There are two types of FSAs – one is for health care-related expenses and the other is for dependent care-related expenses.
