UW-L website continues to evolve

On Aug. 22 UW-La Crosse will launch a more modern and user-friendly homepage. “Our new homepage will feel fresh and welcoming,” says Maren Walz, UW-L’s Web coordinator. ”Not only to those of us who are already familiar with the site, but also for the more than 4 million first-time visits we expect to have in the coming year.” In collaboration with UW-L leadership, the campus Web Advisory Committee  combined design features from the campus community’s top three choices from a survey taken by more than 2,000 participants in the spring. UW-L’s iComm team, Walz and Jacob Speer, and many Web content contributors around campus worked through the summer to bring that vision to life. Read more »

This year’s venue for All-University Address is Valhalla; address, picnic set for Aug. 28

UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow[/caption] Chancellor Joe Gow will give UW-L’s All-University Fall Address from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. That's a change from Graff Main Hall where he has traditionally given the address. Refreshments are available beginning 10 a.m.   Immediately following the address, all university faculty and staff are invited to attend the Annual Chancellor’s Picnic from approximately 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Graff Main Hall south lawn. The rain site is the Galley and the State and Ward rooms in Cartwright Center. The event is free. Tickets and sign-up are not required. The menu includes grilled chicken breasts, vegan burgers, hamburgers, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, an ice cream sundae bar and beverages. UW-L Dining Services will serve the food.

Summer technology event provides information on UW-L technology for faculty, staff

Classroom.The first Summer Learning Technology Faculty Institute was held  Aug. 13 and 14 in Wing Technology Center to provide two days of hands-on learning to faculty who want to learn about supported learning technologies at UW-L and how to integrate those technologies into the classroom.
More than 60 faculty and ITS staff registered for the event. Topics included working with Desire2Learn, how to effectively use iPads, videoconferencing with Jabber, lecture capture pilot, using WINGS and UW-L's virtual desktop. The August 2013 Financial Aid Edition of the Eagle Mail newsletter is now available at www.uwlax.edu/finaid/newsletter.html. This issue includes articles about:

Hairy cell leukemia is topic of Aug. 19 bioresearch forum

Doctor Michael R. Grever, professor and chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, is the keynote speaker at the Monday, Aug. 19, La Crosse BioResearch Forum. Via videoconferencing he will speak on "Updates on Hairy Cell Leukemia" from 12:15-1 p.m.  in the Overholt Auditorium at Gundersen Lutheran. He will answer questions following the presentation.

The free forums are open to the public and hosted by the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation. Those attending should park in the Green ramp (see map) or use valet parking. Use the entrances at the north end and northeast side of the medical center.

UW-L PT graduating class had a 100 percent pass rate on their certification exam. For the first time, one student had a perfect score, one of only four perfect scores earned in the state.
