‘Jeans Day’ is Friday, July 25

UW-L is one of many local organizations that participates in “Jeans Day” each month. Jeans Day is sponsored by the La Crosse Tribune. In return for $1 (suggested donation), UW-L faculty and staff  can wear jeans rather than their usual business attire. One or two local, non-profit charities or organizations are designated each month to receive the Jeans Day donations. The charities this month are WAFER (Food Emergency Resource), and Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps (developing life skills through education and performing arts). Wear jeans and LIVEMAROON attire Friday, July 25. Locate a building contact, contribute $1 (suggested) and get a Jeans Day sticker.  It is not necessary to wear jeans to participate. This is a great way for UW-L to support local non-profit organizations in the Greater La Crosse area. In June the campus raised $50. Building contacts:
  • Cindy Curran, 212 Cartwright Center
  • Laurie Collison, 4206 Centennial Hall
  • Christine Reed, 234 Center for the Arts
  • Vickie Bain, Cleary Alumni & Friends Center
  • Karen Ott, 2004 Cowley Hall
  • Carol Beckerjeck, Eagle Hall
  • Debra Gerke, 105 Graff Main Hall
  • Jeanne Voss, 124 Mitchell Hall
  • Chandra Hawkins, 220 Morris Hall
  • Ingrid Iverson, 107 Murphy Library
  • Ann Reman, Physical Plant
  • Karen Kindschy, Student Health Center
  • Maureen Spencer, 404A Wimberly Hall
  • Josh Kraft, 162 Wing Technology Center
If your building has no contact person, forward donations to Jeans Day Coordinator Maureen Spencer in 404A Wimberly Hall. To become a building contact, call Spencer at 608.785.8115 or email mspencer@uwlax.edu.

La Crosse County: A healthy place to live

State health officials announced that the La Crosse County Health Department has successfully passed the state’s health department review. As a result, the La Crosse County Health Department will maintain its Level III status. “Local public health staff help make their community a healthier place in which to live, play, work and learn,” said Karen McKeown, State Health Officer. “The department has an actively engaged and supportive Health and Human Services Board and does an excellent job of collaborating with community partners to improve the health status of La Crosse County residents.” The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is required to formally review the operations of all 88 Wisconsin local health departments at the county or municipality level at least every five years. The review establishes the health department as a level I, II or III agency. A level I agency meets the minimum requirements and a level III agency meets the maximum requirements established for a local health department.
