Consider renewing your support for MVAC’s ongoing work

Dear Friend of MVAC:

It’s April! Here at MVAC, our archaeologists are monitoring ever-changing spring field conditions, conducting development-related surveys and site visits whenever they can.

Seasonal fieldwork is essential, but it’s only part of what we do. MVAC’s public outreach, collections care, and other educational and preservation-related activities continue all year round. The Coulee Region’s cultural heritage extends back thousands of years, and ongoing growth of modern communities in the same places keeps us mindful of the preservation clock ticking.

For over forty years MVAC’s archaeologists have led the way in public outreach, education, preservation, and regional research. Year round, we provide information, answer questions, and aid community preservation efforts. Here are just a few of our accomplishments since last fall:

  • Introduced a new Video Glossary series (Flakes, Temper) and a new UWL Archaeology Alumni Podcast series (Kassie Haines, Megan Kasten), all available on YouTube
  • Offered 39 presentations and lab tours for varied audiences totaling over 1,550 people
  • Responded to over 200 contacts from people seeking information
  • Worked with avocational archaeologists to document collections and record sites
  • Hosted a busy Artifact Show that featured displays of 15 large collections, a flintknapping demonstration, and an artifact ID station that stayed busy all day
  • Held a public lecture by UWL Assistant Teaching Professor, Dr. Heather Walder, on five seasons of community-engaged collaborative fieldwork with the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribal Historic Preservation Office in Red Cliff, Wisconsin.

Donations from supporters go directly to outreach and preservation activities such as these. Won’t you please consider making a donation to support this important work?
