UW-L Math Department to receive Regents’ Teaching Excellence award

The UW System Board of Regents has selected UW-La Crosse’s Mathematics Department to receive the Regents’ 2015 Teaching Excellence Award for academic departments and programs. Only one department in the UW System receives the award annually. Read more »

Funds for instruction, research and public service projects are available for July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016, through a Foundation Small Grant. Any member of the university community may apply for a small grant for a wide variety of projects. State budget legislative listening session set for March 16 at UW-L

Rep. Jill Billings and State Senator Jennifer Shilling have scheduled a state legislative budget listening session from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, in the Cameron Hall of Nations, Centennial Hall. The free event is open to everyone. Parking is available in Lot C-10, 16th and Vine streets.

International guest speakers discuss importance of knowing more than one language for success in business

UW-L alumna Maria Fisher from Mexico is a sales consultant at Trane Company. Ytcher Locher from the Dominican Republic is Trane's project lead in business operation support in finance. They shared their experience in the company that sells heating, refrigeration and air conditioning products that are exported and manufactured worldwide. Students seeking an internship or job at Trane need to have specific business qualifications, they said. Being proficient in a second language is a definite advantage. Besides knowing the language, other components of success in business include knowing the culture and business etiquette, and working with respect and integrity.  Five selected as Public Speaking Competition finalists

Photo by Joseph van Oss.[/caption] Five finalists were selected from a pool of 1,200 UW-L students at the Public Speaking Competition. The competition, organized by the Department of Communication Studies and the Public Speaking Center, promotes and showcases student excellence in public speaking. Finalists and their rankings include:
  • Cara Henney, first place
  • Carly Ferguson, second place
  • Samantha Mueller, third place
  • Adria Braley, fourth place
  • Allison Shaver, fifth place

'Chasing the Ghost Particle — Searching for Neutrinos' is March Public Program; No Album Encounters March 20

The Planetarium’s Public Program for March is "Chasing the Ghost Particle — Searching for Neutrinos." The talk, followed by a multimedia audiovisual presentation, will be at 1 p.m. Saturdays, March 21 and 28Admission is $3 for students, seniors and children, and $5 for others. UW-L's Awareness through Performance troupe seeks students who want to promote social justice, increase awareness of diversity issues, and create a more inclusive society to apply for ATP. Applications for the fall 2015 troupe are accepted from Friday, March 20-Monday, March 30. Required time commitment for members is 11 days, mostly before classes begin.
