Students from different majors share benefits of learning new cultures, languages

Students can discover the benefits to learning a new language and culture at an upcoming event at UW-La Crosse. “Infused Cultures and Languages across Majors: Students' Perspectives" runs from 3:30-5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the Language Resource Center, 321 Graff Main Hall. Nine students with various majors will share their study abroad experiences in Bolivia, China, France, Spain and Togo. They will explain how living overseas enriched their education and life. Through a poster-session format, the students will share fascinating stories and give powerful examples while taking part in conversations with students interested in similar experiences. Also during the event, Ryan McKelley, Psychology Department, and Lindsay Steiner, English Department, will talk about their teaching and cultural experience in China last summer. Liz Peacock, Anthropology Department, and Regina Goodnow, Political Science Department, will present their study abroad trip planned in Czech Republic next summer. Omar Granados, a faculty member who teaches Spanish in the Global Cultures and Languages Department, will preview his trip planned for Cuba in spring. Refreshments with an international flare will be served.
