Artwork from cover of play. From the theater company who performed “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead,” The Happy Rain Theatre Company will perform “Impassioned Embraces: Pieces of Love and Theatre” on campus in August and September. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24; Saturday, Aug. 25; and Saturday, Sept. 15. A matinee performance begins at 2 Sunday, Sept. 16. All performances are in the Frederick Theatre in the lower level of Morris Hall, 16th and State streets. “Impassioned Embraces,” a play by John Pielmeier, is an episodic play on the creation of the theater process itself. Interwoven with scenes on social issues, secrets and love are monologues about how to be an intelligent performer — and more importantly — how the ideals of great acting are connected to becoming a well-rounded human being. Episodes range from intensely dramatic, ridiculously absurd, to laugh-out-loud farcical material. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for others. Tickets will be on sale at the door 30 minutes before the start of every show. Cash and checks only. The show contains explicit language and adult themes. The Happy Rain Theatre Company was created a year-and-a-half ago with one idea in mind: creating magnificent theatre performances with only students. The company provides up-and-coming theatre professionals opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and to gain experience outside of an academic setting. The student-run company was funded by an undergraduate research grant. For more information, contact Austin Hernandez at 920.838.4990 or hernande.aust@uwlax.edu.
