Programs to discuss workplace, education inclusion
A leader in workplace and education inclusion will give three presentations — including two on campus — on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Jacqueline Battalora, a keynote speaker, author, trainer and consultant, is known for her presentations about the legal invention of the human category of “white” people. She turns contemporary conceptions of race upside down and reorients thinking about race and human divisions. Battalora’s keynote presentations, steeped in law and history, are engaging, thought-provoking, and relevant.
Her La Crosse presentations include:
• "Going Back To Go Forward," part of the Greater La Crosse Area Diversity Council's Annual Conference Western Technical College Lunda Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Register by Friday, Nov. 7, at https://www.glaxdiversitycouncil.com/2019/10/11/finding-knowledge-for-expanding-and-strengthening-inclusive-communities-and-workplaces/
• "The Invention of White People in Law," a special city of La Crosse classroom session, Graff Main Hall Hesprich Auditorium, 12:40–2:05 p.m. Free admission. The program is open to students, faculty, staff and administrators.
• "Going Back To Go Forward," a keynote presentation, Graff Main Hall Hesprich Auditorium, 5:30–7 p.m. - Free admission; open to all.
Battalora is the author of "Birth of a White Nation: The Invention of White People and Its Relevance Today" and numerous articles. She is an attorney and professor of sociology at Saint Xavier University in Chicago and a former Chicago Police Officer.
