Photo of UW System website.UW-L's MOOC featured on System website

UW-L's unique Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is the featured program on a state website that advocates how UW campuses strengthen the state's economy. The site's banner story highlights the accomplishments of the new venture for UW-L — and the UW System — funded through a $50,000 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant. You'll find the story highlighted at www.uwpowerswi.com/.
The site has been developed by UW System, with help from all campuses, to show how Wisconsin’s public universities, colleges and extension networks are working to improve the state’s competitive edge by leveraging the state’s human capital, supporting business and industry, and strengthening local communities.

Feed the Kids logo.OCW spearheads on-campus food drive for Feed the Kids Summer Lunch Program

When school is out for summer, school lunch programs close down and many children in the community go hungry or fill up on non-nutritional food. The Salvation Army’s Feed the Kids volunteers assemble sack lunches and deliver them to children in neighborhoods in La Crosse and Onalaska. For some children this is the only meal they have. To help, UW-L’s Organization of Campus Women is collecting individually packaged lunch items — chips, granola bars, fruit snacks, juice boxes — for the lunches Monday, June 17, through Friday, July 5. To donate, drop the food items at any of these locations:
  • Human Resources Office, 144 Graff Main Hall
  • Campus Climate Office, 1120 Centennial Hall
  • Disability Resource Services, 165 Murphy Library
Last year, The Salvation Army delivered 21,000 lunches and the number of children who qualify for assistance continues to grow. For more information, contact Karmin Van Domelen at 785.5097 or kvandomelen@uwlax.edu.
