Beginning Jan. 20, UW-L will transition to single-stream recycling. Single-stream recycling is expected to create a simpler recycling process that will increase the amount of material being recycled, reduce the amount of trash that ends up in the waste stream and reduce the cost of handling trash. Single-stream recycling allows users to conveniently place all of their recyclable items such as newspaper, cardboard, mixed paper, magazines, glass, aluminum and plastics 1-7 in one recycling bin. The recyclables are sorted later at Harter’s Quick Clean Up recycling center. An educational program is being developed to aid the campus community in moving to a single-stream recycling system, including modified signage and promotional materials. For more information on this transition, contact Doug Pearson, executive director, Facilities Planning & Management, or Dan Sweetman, environmental health, occupational safety and sustainability program manager, at dsweetman@uwlax.edu.News and upcoming events
