New ‘UWL Celebrates’ project elevates voices, allows you to be part of important national observances
UW-La Crosse is announcing a new monthly project, Celebration Months, to recognize the many vibrant cultures and communities on campus. The project builds upon national observances, such as Women’s History Month in March, and seeks to amplify the voices and experiences of students, staff and faculty.
Any faculty, staff or student is encouraged to share how they are celebrating by submitting a short paragraph and photo at share.uwlax.edu/celebration/months. Allies and advocates are also invited to share their stories.
New monthly celebrations will be visible on the UWL homepage at the start of the month, and submissions will be accepted through the end of the month. Submissions are visible by clicking the “Celebrate with us” button on the homepage.
The project aims to give campus, community and anyone who visits the UWL website a chance to learn about experiences and perspectives that may be different from their own. It also meets a vital pillar in UWL’s strategic plan “achieving excellence through equity and diversity."
“We look forward to recognizing a new community monthly and hearing how members of our campus are celebrating their identities,” says Dina Zavala, UWL’s assistant vice chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion.

The project is a collaboration between UWL Diversity & Inclusion and University Marketing and Communications. Questions can be directed to the Diversity & Inclusion Office, diversity@uwlax.edu
What is UWL Celebrates?
Celebration Months is part of UWL Celebrates, a UWL campaign that allows UWL people to engage and share important moments online. Look forward to other celebrations such as contributions from UWL seniors as they celebrate commencement and the Hired! Campaign, honoring those who were hired before graduation.
