Murphy Library welcomes new Administrative Supervisor Sean Hurtubise

Meet Sean, one of the newest members of the Murphy Library team! As the Administrative Supervisor at Murphy, Sean spends a lot of his time on library budgeting, purchasing, and personnel, including overseeing the library's student workers. We're so excited to have him on board!

Join us in welcoming Sean, and keep reading to learn more about him!

More about Sean

Where are you from?

Illinois, New York, Arizona, Minnesota and Wisconsin

What's your favorite part of your job?

Helping folks find solutions to unavoidable issues.

How long have you worked here?

I've been at UWL for almost two years but have only been working in Murphy Library since January.

What do you do when not at work?

Being not inside is something I strive for, preferably near water. I also enjoy a lot of turn-of-the-century music and TV shows.

What have you read/viewed/listened to/etc. recently?

I just finished a book called Lightning Flowers by Katie Standefer, which I recommend if you're interested in a very human cost/benefit analysis of mining lifesaving metals. I'm also always happy to read/listen to anything by Johns Darnielle and K. Samson.

What might surprise us about you?

Throughout the summer of 2014, I was told by at least 20 different people that I talked like David Spade. I hadn't been told that before and haven't since.

Favorites

  • Book - "Wolf in White Van" by John Darnielle
  • TV show - I'm currently enjoying "Atlanta" quite a lot.
  • Album - "Deja Entendu" by the band Brand New
  • Band/musician - The Weakerthans
  • Holiday - Groundhog Day
