Jeans Day artwork.UWL is one of many local organizations that participates in “Jeans Day” each month and is sponsored by the La Crosse Tribune. In return for $1 (suggested donation), UWL faculty and staff have the opportunity to wear jeans rather than usual business attire. Donations go to designated local, non-profit charities or organizations each month. The charities this month are Steppin' Out in Pink and Great River Festival of Arts. Locate your building contact person on the list below, contribute the suggested $1 and collect a Jeans Day sticker. It is not necessary to wear jeans to participate. Risk Management provides guidance on drivers' authorization

Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, anyone driving a vehicle on university business is required to complete a Drivers Authorization Application to become an approved driver prior to driving on university business. The University Drivers Authorization policy and application can be found at Business Services Risk Management. This policy adheres to state regulations and UW System policy requiring that all drivers be authorized due to the substantial risk associated with allowing unauthorized individuals to drive while on university business. This policy applies to all individuals driving on university business including employees, students, volunteers, LTEs, and other agents of the university. It also applies to all vehicles including those that are privately owned, university-owned, leased or rented. To become an authorized driver, complete the Drivers Authorization Application and submit to the University Police Department. The application asks for driver contact and license information and requires review and signatures by the driver, supervisor and University Police. Contact Scott Holzem, risk manager, at sholzem@uwlax.edu or 608.785.8569 with questions regarding the policy or application. Campus Kudos artwork. Help wanted - paid student helper

Sharp-witted, sarcastic, intelligent, unfortunately-paralyzed student seeking compassionate, kind, intelligent other student to become a paid assistant for classes in fall 2015. I don’t need a lot of help, or any sort of specialized help. I just need a reliable, personable, responsible person to meet me on schedule and come to class with me as my “helping hands.” This means taking notes, getting out my books, assisting with work in class, and then some smaller personal cares. Sometimes I ask for water from my bottle, or have to take a pill, or need some assistance with scarf or hat removal, or a stretch of the hand. I swear it’s not a bad job and I’m an awesome boss. I have class every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:40-5:20 p.m. I like to keep a 10 to 20 minute buffer on either side of those times so that we can meet each other and I can catch my ride. Some portions of this time can be divided among helpers and hanging out with me in class pays $9.50 an hour. I like music, movies, learning and cake — just like everybody else. I just have to learn to ask, and get by with a little help from my friends. If there is any interest, please send an email my way at mcconaug.keel@uwlax.edu. Please, bring true personalities to the table because I am a very un-professional sort of boss and the most important thing is that we like to spend the time together.
