Overview of students and marching band. UW-L international students were welcomed to campus with an ice cream social and music from the Screaming Eagles Marching Band on Aug. 31. Chancellor Joe Gow, photo center, helped direct the band. UW-L has 475 international students this fall — the largest group in the university’s history, says Jay Lokken, director of the International Education program. International students make up about 5 percent of the total UW-L student population. UW-L has focused on growing international student numbers over the years because one of the university’s goals is to create global citizens, says Lokken.
