The resources below are part of the 2015 budget-related library cancellations.
All Print Magazines, newspapers (mostly popular). While the majority of these titles are popular press like Time, New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Sports Illustrated, others are scholarly titles that are not available in electronic format (some of these include electronic, but are bundled with print) .
Applied Science and Technology Full Text (EBSCOhost). Indexes and abstracts hundreds of journals in the subjects of chemistry, engineering, computer technology, mathematics, data processing, physics, and energy-related disciplines.
Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ProQuest). Collection of 5 databases: ASFA 1, ASFA 2, ASFA 3, ASFA Aquaculture, and ASFA Marine Biotechnology. Indexes over 5,000 journals in the field of aquatic sciences; including conservation, marine biotechnology, oceanography, policy and legislation, and wildlife management.
Art & Architecture Complete (EBSCOhost). Includes full-text for over 380 periodicals and 220 books. In addition, Art & Architecture Complete offers citations and abstracts for 780 academic journals, magazines and trade publications. The database also includes 63,000 images.
Book Review Index (Gale). This resource is the best place to start when looking for book reviews. It includes more than 5 million citations for reviews from thousands of publications. Once you've found a citation of interest, click the GetTeXt button for full text access option to locate the complete review. Coverage: 1965 - present
Browzine. A tablet application (Murphy Library pays annual license fees for UWL users) that allows users to browse, read complete articles, and monitor tables of contents for many of the library’s scholarly journals.
Cambridge Structural Database. (CSD) is a repository of small molecule crystal structures.The CSD System also comprises software for database access, structure visualisation and data analysis, and structural knowledge bases derived from the CSD. The chemistry department maintains the full database on their servers, while the Web CSD Web version (enough for most users) is available to all library users.
Ethnic NewsWatch (ProQuest). Spanish-, English-language and bilingual newspapers, magazines, and journals plus other ethnic, minority, and native press publications. Subject areas: general reference, history and politics, humanities and social sciences. Titles include: La Opinion, El Nuevo Herald, El Diario/La Prensa, Mundo Hispanico, Hispanic, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education
Films On Demand (Films Media Group). Films On Demand is a web-based digital video delivery service that provides access to a dynamic collection (titles are added and removed twice each year) of over 9,000 educational videos and 95,000 video clips. Special features allow users the ability to organize and bookmark clips, share playlists, personalize folders and manage their entire collection through an administrative reporting system.
Historical Abstracts (EBSCOhost). Indexes and abstracts over 2,300 history journals. Covers world history from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada, which are covered in America: History and Life). Note: This resource is limited to 6 simultaneous users.
Labor & Employment Law Resource Center (BNA). Provides explanations of complex federal and state laws, regulations governing employment, as well as cases, rulings, awards and opinions from U.S. courts and administrative agencies. Note: This resource is for UW-L student, faculty, and staff use only. A username and password are required for access, please click here for password. Note: This resource is limited to 40 simultaneous users.
PressDisplay (NewspaperDirect). Library PressDisplay provides current issues of more than 1,200 U.S. and international newspapers in full-color, full-page format including the Chicago Tribune and the Washington Post. Users can browse articles and other key content, such as pictures, advertisements, and classifieds. Coverage: Current with up to a 60-day backfile. Note: This resource is limited to 3 simultaneous users.
Print/Electronic Monographs & Reference Books (7% cut). Reduction in the purchase of books in the circulating (can be checked out) and reference collections, in either print or electronic format.
Public Affairs Index (EBSCOhost).Public Affairs Index is a bibliographic database covering all aspects of national and global contemporary public policy issues ranging from public health, the environment, housing, human and civil rights, to international commerce and conflict. Access to this resource is made possible by UW-L Student Academic Initiative funding.
Reference Universe. A single, centralized access point to Murphy Library's collection of online and print reference works (subject encyclopedias, handbooks, compendia), allowing you to deeply search within the collection through tables of contents and actual back of the book indexes. Link directly into the work if available online. Covers 5,400 titles held by Murphy Library, and about 45,000 reference works total.
Social Explorer (Oxford University Press). An online research tool that provides access to historical census data and demographic information. Includes US Census data from 1790 to 2000, all annual updates from the American Community Survey, and the Religious Congregations and Membership Study from 1980 to 2000.
Sociological Abstracts (ProQuest). Provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 2,000 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers.
Value Line Research Center. The Value Line Institutional Investment Survey Online is equivalent to the Standard and Small & Mid Cap Print Editions combined and covers approximately 3,500 Large through Small & Mid Cap Equities. Partial funding for this resource is provided by the College of Business Administration. Note: This resource is limited to 6 simultaneous users.
Videos (7% cut). Reduction in the purchase of video titles either on DVD or streaming format.
Zoological Record (Thomson), 1864-current. Provides a comprehensive index to worldwide publications covering all areas of zoology and animal science, including anatomy, behavior, conservation, distribution, ecology, evolution, nutrition, systematic, and veterinary science.
