Milwaukee-area August events planned
Alumna Ashley Kumlien is running across the U.S. for multiple sclerosis (MS). Her trek began March 22 in San Francisco. Running approximately 20 miles a day, the former UW-L soccer player and middle distance track runner crossed the Mississippi River on July 27.
She plans to run to New York, approximately 3,200 miles, by Sept. 22 to raise money for MS. Her mother has battled MS for 27 years.
A series of events in the Milwaukee area begin Friday, Aug. 6, with a group run and a fun run; a tailgate party at 4:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Brewers game Aug. 10; and an Aug. 11 screening of the film "Without Limits" at the Marcus Majestic Cinema in Brookfield.
Kumlien earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science from UW-L in 2007. The 25-year-old Brookfield native is a certified "Adventure Boot Camp" instructor and personal trainer and founder of MSRuntheUS Inc. She set up a non-profit organization to fund her run to raise donations to fight MS.
