Rep. Jill Billings to host Symposium on Public Higher Education

The impact UW-La Crosse has on the community and the issues UW System schools are facing will be the focus of an upcoming symposium on campus. Rep. Jill Billings (D-La Crosse) will host a symposium on public higher education from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Port O’ Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. Billings says the symposium is intended to raise awareness of the impact UWL has on the region and provide context to higher education hot topics from a variety of local perspectives. “My intent is to open the discussion of higher education to the community,” she says. “I wanted to bring a forum together where faculty, administrators, students and the community come together to hear different perspectives on these issues and get the facts about the impact of higher education in Wisconsin and the opportunities universities can provide for the future.” Billings will be joined by several panelists, including UW System President Ray Cross, UWL Faculty Senate Chair Anne Galbraith, UWL Student Association Vice President Patrick Brever, La Crosse Tribune Executive Editor Rusty Cunningham and former UW Board of Regents President Brent Smith. The panel will discuss a variety of topics ranging from the state budget, tenure, student loan debt and student workforce. This event is open to all. Refer questions to Rep. Billings’ office at 608.266.5780. If you go — What: Symposium on the Public Higher Education System, hosted by Rep.
