Currently, there’s the construction of a new parking ramp near La Crosse Street. Projects in the queue include an updated science building and student center, and potentially another residence hall. He notes his pride in the construction of Eagle and Centennial halls, both focusing around eco-sustainability. Read more »

Take a survey about Centennial Hall

The LIVEMAROON Get-Together is planned for 10-11:30 a.m. in the Cameron Hall of Nations, Centennial Hall. Wearing of clothing featuring non-profits will help participants meet others. And the shirts will provide a visual impact of the various non-profits that benefit from UW-L employees. Chancellor Gow has granted release time; work with supervisors to ensure office coverage.

LIVEMAROON is a campus-wide effort to highlight the passion, friendship, community and pride found at UW-L. The initiative is coordinated and sponsored by Campus Climate, Classified Staff Council, University Communications and University Police. University Dining Services has funded the beverages and treats. No taxpayer dollars are used to fund the event. Get more on LIVEMAROON at: http://uwlax.edu/livemaroon.

UW-L's Visiting Artist Series begins Feb. 15

Impact of Islamophobia on Muslims in the U.S. is focus of Feb. 20 Visiting Scholar presentation

Assistant Sociology Professor Saher Selod of Simmons College, Boston, will be on campus to discuss how gender influences anti-Muslim discrimination. Her presentation is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in 1309 Centennial Hall. Selod teaches courses on principles of sociology, research methods, gender and Islam and Islamophobia. Her research examines how Muslim Americans experience racialization in the United States through their de-Americanization or cultural exclusion from social citizenship. Selod has earned the Teaching Innovations & Professional Development Award from SAGE and the American Sociological Association. She is published in the Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society; the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences; the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences; Journal of Public Health Management and Practice; Seniors Housing & Care Journal; Journal of Emergency Management; among others. Selod is co-editing a special issue of “Critical Sociology” and is examining the public’s attitude towards Muslims in the U.S. based on a national survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. Selod's research suggests political leaders, the American press and neoconservatives have lumped Muslim American men and women into a newly formed racial category. Muslim women are treated as if they threaten American cultural values while Muslim men are regarded as a potential threat to national security. Her research reveals a growing need to examine the intersectionalities of Muslim experiences that incorporate an analysis of gender, race, citizenship and religion. This event is sponsored by the Provost Office’s Visiting Scholar of Color Grant and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department. • Look for emails from Staples Advantage in coming weeks (four-five emails) for your new login information and new contact information for Staples Customer Service. Be sure to read and follow the instructions given from these email communications.
  • Your current login and password will transfer to the new site, but there will be additional login criteria required which will be communicated in the emails received from Staples.

  • Make sure you have a valid and updated email address saved in your EWay account profile.

UW-L logo artwork.What’s our brand?

Editor’s note: This series introduces the new UW-La Crosse Branding Initiative and provides effective tools to help you brand your UW-L program effectively. See the whole toolkit. It’s important to have a consistent message when relaying the message about UW-La Crosse to all of our constituents. Here are some brief answers to potential questions you might get about the university … How are we educating tomorrow’s leaders? We attract high-ability, goal-oriented students eager to learn from caring faculty and staff in a caring community. Students learn directly from professors, not assistants. They benefit from small classes (a 20:1 student-faculty ratio) and conduct hands-on undergraduate research. What drives us? Our motto: Mens Corpusque, Latin for “mind and body.” Our faculty and staff are dedicated to the whole education of our students, giving them an outstanding academic education, along with an appreciation for physical and recreational well-being to make them great, well-rounded global citizens. Why are we distinct? Each year we recruit impressive students. In our fall 2011 freshman class:
  • average ACT score was 24.7 (National average: 21.1; Wisconsin average: 22.1)
  • 26 percent graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class
  • median class rank was in the 82nd percentile
  • 9.4 percent were U.S. students of color
