University seeking ambassadors, donors for One Day for UWL
UW-La Crosse is setting out to engage alumni from all 50 states during One Day for UWL, the university’s fourth-annual day of giving, Oct. 17-18.
UWL alumni come from all over the country, and during last year’s 24-hour virtual fundraiser, the university received donations from alumni in 39 of the 50 states.
Now, UWL hopes to recruit ambassadors and inspire donors from all 50 states to support campus causes that are important to them. (More information about the “50 state challenge” will be shared in the weeks ahead.)
"One Day for UWL is our largest philanthropic day each year,” says Taylor Wilmoth, assistant director of Strategic Engagement for the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation. “Gifts to your favorite UWL people, ideas and initiatives will have a greater impact during these 24 hours than at any other time throughout the year.”
Ambassadors play a critical role in maximizing the reach of One Day for UWL, promoting the event through email, social media and word of mouth.
Those who donate and inspire at least five others to give through their ambassador link will be eligible for limited-edition UWL merchandise. The top three ambassadors will also earn money for a campus cause of their choosing.
Prospective ambassadors can sign up or learn more online. Early registration is encouraged, but ambassadors can sign up until the start of the event Oct. 17.
Last year, 88 ambassadors raised $31,345 from 264 donations during One Day for UWL — numbers organizers hope to top this year.
“The reach of One Day for UWL – and the impact on staff and students – is directly influenced by ambassadors who help spread the word far and wide,” Wilmoth says.
Adds Todd Taylor, chair of the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation Board: “One Day for UWL is a great opportunity for alumni and friends to financially show their gratitude for the impact UWL had on our respective lives and careers. In these days of reducing taxpayer support for public higher education, it is more important than ever for funds to be raised through the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation. These donations will make a big difference for UWL students, staff and the campus.”
