Enjoy food, crafts and music at the 38th Annual Great River Folk Festival Friday through Sunday, Aug. 23-25, on campus.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Cartwright Center with a headliner concert by one of America's premier singers and songwriters Dar Williams.  Williams' songs have been compared favorably to Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, but with an occasional hilarious twist.

Overlapping daytime sessions at two sites feature music round-robins, with a third site for jams and dedicated workshops. Saturday evening performers appear throughout the weekend. Sunday’s music also includes the finals of the fifth annual songwriters contest. The winner takes the stage at Sunday's Farewell Concert, featuring the Ultrasonics and Claudia Schmidt.

A 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, concert includes Midwestern troubadour Barbara Jean, swinging gypsy jazz from Harmonious Wail, Twin Cities alternative bluegrass up-and-comers The May North, the four sisters band SHEL, and Wisconsin favorite, Willy Porter.
