October is Disability Awareness Month

Posted 7:53 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009

October is Disability Awareness Month. The highlighted event this year is the Disability History Exhibit which traces 3,000 years of seldom-told history. From antiquity to the present, the exhibit brings viewers through an illustrated timeline that shows society’s attitudes and how they affect the lives of people with disabilities. This exhibition is on loan from the Advocating Change Together Organization in Minneapolis and will be on display from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, and from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. A reception is set for 4:30 p.m. Monday. The exhibit will be displayed at Murphy Library Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 14 and 15. Find out more about the exhibit at www.selfadvocacy.org/toolsforchange/history.htm. See a calendar of events at www.uwlax.edu/general/diversity/Documents/DisAbility%20Awareness%20Month%2009.pdf.
