UW-L fun run to support scholarships

A first-ever fun run at UW-La Crosse is only a mile long and will help raise money for scholarships for new UW-L freshmen.

A first-ever fun run at UW-La Crosse that is only a mile long will go far in raising money for scholarships for new freshmen attending UW-La Crosse. The Grand Mile kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Veteran’s Memorial Sports Complex. Organizers of the one-mile race hope to do more than raise money for a good cause. “Along with raising money for new freshmen scholarships we hope to educate people on the importance of health and wellness,” says Tina Kuhle, director of annual giving for the UW-L Foundation. General registration is $15 before Friday, Sept. 5, and $20 after that until the race. Registration is $12 for UW-L students until Saturday, Sept. 13, and $17 after that until race day. All registering for the race will receive a Nike dri-fit running shirt. Packet pick-up runs from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at Grand Bluff Running, 509 Main St., La Crosse, or onsite the day of run between 8-9:45 a.m. An awards ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three overall men’s and women’s finishers, along with top three in each age group. Age groups include: 12 and under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over. Register at www.GrandMile.org or for more information, call Grand Bluff Running at 608.782.8227.
