University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Professor Emeritus Burt Altman will lead a fall tour to South Africa.
Altman, a retired teacher education professor, has led numerous cultural tours to exotic places during the past decade, including Vietnam, India, Tanzania and Cuba — twice. He and his wife, Norma, will lead the adventure to South Africa Oct. 7-21, 2013. Along with tourist attractions, Altman trips include visits to hospitals, universities, schools and small business enterprises.
“South Africa: A Land of Contrasts” will include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Livingstone — including Victoria Falls — and Kruger National Park for a safari. The tour includes four and five-star hotels, essential tourist attractions and unique points of interest. The trip focuses on two dimensions: people and nature. An emphasis will be on learning about the South African people and understanding their multitude of cultures — from European and Asian to tribal. Victoria Falls and the wildlife of Kruger National Park highlight the nature facet of the tour.
Cost of the trip is $7,994 for Learning in Retirement members and $8,029 for others. The price includes flights in South Africa, all meals except two, all sightseeing trips and a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls. The price does not include international flights to and from South Africa, nor visas to South Africa and Zambia.
The deadline to sign up for the trip is Tuesday, Feb. 26. To register or for more information including a complete itinerary, visit www.uwlax.edu/conted/lir/southafrica.html or contact the Altmans at Altman3131@aol.com.
