Traditional Korean music master class, performances coming to campus

Traditional Korean music and dance will be highlighted at UW-La Crosse when the Danullim Korean Music Ensemble from South Korea brings its "Korean Wave-Globalization of Korean Traditional Culture 2018" to campus April 11-14. Native to South Korea, the Danullim Korean Music Ensemble specializes in Korean traditional music and dance. Under the director, Jaedong Hong, the ensemble will present Korean traditional instrumental and vocal music, as well as fusion music. One of their repertories is "Pansori," proclaimed in 2003 as one of the UNESCO “Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.” A masterclass with Jae Seok Jang on "Korean Drumming" will be held from 9:55-10:50 a.m. Another masterclass with So Young Kim on "Pansori" will be held from 12:05-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Room 56 Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th St. The events are free and open to the public. Two Korean traditional music and dance performances are planned. The first begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Annett Recital Hall in the Center for the Arts. The second runs from 12:05-1 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Bluffs Ballroom in the Student Union, 521 East Ave. N. The performances are free and open to all. The events are supported by UWL College of Liberal Studies, UWL Foundation, Korean Percussion Ensemble, Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee, and Office of International Education & Engagement.
