Supplement, fitness guru presents on importance of education in supplement industry Dec. 9 at UWL

Jim Stoppani, a celebrity in the fitness and supplement industry, will present “Education: the key to creating a better/safer supplement industry” at UW-La Crosse. The free, public lecture will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the Brian and Lori Hesprich Auditorium in Graff Main Hall, 1725 State Street. Stoppani, who holds a doctorate in exercise physiology, single-handedly changed the supplement industry by emphasizing the importance of being an educated consumer when it comes to taking dietary supplements. He believes that companies should be open and honest when it comes to what ingredients they include in their products, the dosages, only including well-researched ingredients to ensure the safety and quality of each product. Stoppani has written thousands of articles on exercise, nutrition and health and is author of “Encyclopedia of Muscle & Strength” and co-author of the New York Times Bestseller, “LL Cool J's Platinum 360 Diet and Lifestyle.” He is owner and creator of JYM Supplement Science, and the senior science editor of several muscle and fitness magazines. Stoppani is coming to UWL after making a research connection with Andrew Jagim, UWL assistant professor of Exercise and Sport Science. Stoppani's research and development team reached out about an article Jagim published on the effects of one of Stoppani's new supplements on strength performance and anaerobic running capacity. Stoppani will interview Jagim about the results of his study during his La Crosse visit. View the study’s findings. The event is co-hosted by the Exercise Sport Science Department and UWL Athletics. Stoppani has a large following on social media
