Six years and still shaving strong!

Posted 4:42 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012

UW-L students seek donations leading up to March 24 fundraiser Over the last five years shaving heads on the UW-La Crosse campus has raised more than $47,600 for childhood cancer research. This year organizers of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser hope to add $10,000 more. “The UW-L campus has really stuck with this program over the years and everyone cares so much about it,” says UW-L Sophomore Stephanie Cuevas. “It seems like nearly everyone is in some way involved whether they’ve shaved their head, donated or were at the event.” This year razors will be buzzing from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at UW-La Crosse Recreational Eagle Center. So far $3,600 has been collected in on-line donations. People are welcome to support the cause whatever way they want — shaving their head for a minimum of a $20 donation ($50 if you want a T-shirt too) or donating online to others who are cutting or shaving their hair. Hair will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids. About 100 people turned out to shave or cut their hair last year. Organizers expect a similar crowd this year. UW-L’s Coate Hall organizes St. Baldrick’s on campus. Money raised goes to The St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to funding promising research to find cures for childhood cancer and help survivors live long and healthy lives. Sign up to shave or donate online. Walk-ins are also welcome.
