Faculty guest artist, world premiere featured in concert

The UWL Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble will perform a joint concert of big band pieces that range from classic swing and big band vocals to contemporary funk and Latin charts. The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in The Bluffs, UWL Student Union. The event is free and open to all.

The UWL Jazz Orchestra will perform with special guest artist UWL faculty flutist Jonathan Borja on “Bossa Merengova” from Mike Mower’s “Sonata Latino.” The group will also play the world premiere of “No Wiser than Before,” a funk chart by recent UWL graduate Luke Thering.

Vocalists Cassandra Quinn and Mike Meyers will also perform with the groups, singing songs from the Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Gordon Goodwin libraries.

The UWL Music Department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The department offers a variety of degree programs, as well as opportunities for students seeking an extracurricular passion or creative outlet for their musical talents. The department currently serves more than 100 music majors and minors, along with many more music lovers.
