Alumnus vies for TV show title in finale

It’s a redemption year for Drew Knapp. The 2016 UWL alumnus is once again putting his skills on display as he vies to become an American Ninja Warrior. It will be his second try at the title. Last year was his first try, where he fell just short of making it to the national finals. “It was disappointing to fall short,” says Knapp. “This year I know a lot more and feel much more prepared.” Also helping him get further in the competition is Knapp’s inspiration – and fellow ninja competitor – Dalton Knapp, Drew’s younger brother. Dalton is a cancer survivor and was eligible to compete for the first time this year. “He became my hero,” says Drew. “He really inspired me to keep working harder toward my goals.” Dalton was knocked out of the competition one obstacle short of qualifying for the national competition. https://youtu.be/maqpdEEt-hA Drew is one of 41 competitors who made it through the first stage of the national finals. He’ll continue his run during the season finale of American Ninja Warrior on Monday, Sept. 18. The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT on NBC. In the meantime, Drew is working towards his goal of opening up a ninja gym near his hometown, Suamico. As he lays that groundwork, he’s also building the foundation of interest in the sport with the group “Wisconsin Warriors.” He formed the group along with Dalton and his best friend Luke Chamers, who also competed on this season of American Ninja Warrior. They are building awareness of the sport through their YouTube channel. The plan is to create weekly episodes about happenings in the ninja world and advice for aspiring ninjas.
