Majors: Finance, Economics (majors), Communications (minor) Vice President, BOK Financial How did UWL prepare you for your career or shape your goals and ambitions? My experience at UW-L, both academically and in campus leadership roles, built the foundation for a successful career. However, the university itself cannot prepare a student for their career or future, it can only provide opportunities. As a student, I took these opportunities to serve in leadership roles and gain the most I could from my classes. What is a fun or interesting fact about you that most people do not know? My wife and I met as part of a charity date auction. We were selected along with 20 others to be auctioned off, along with a planned date to raise money for Penfield Children’s Center. Prior to the event, we had never met, although our paths probably crossed many times. Even though I was reluctant to participate and be on public display, I am thankful I did! What advice would you give to a current student? Take advantage of all that the university has to offer, get involved in areas you are passionate about and learn from others. Most of all, make sure to balance the academic and more social aspects of the college experience. Both will help shape your future and provide memories you will carry forward post-graduation. M.S.E.- College Student Personnel Mentoring Coordinator at UW-Stevens Point; Project Manager at the United Way of Portage County What is your favorite spot on campus and why? My favorite place on campus is the bleachers at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. It’s such a beautiful setting with the bluffs in the background, and I have great memories there watching football games, graduation, etc. What class or professor did you enjoy the most during your time at UWL and why? Larry Ringgenberg was my favorite professor. He taught me to take responsibility for my learning; he provided me challenge and support throughout my education; and he exemplified a student-centered philosophy and commitment to inclusivity that set an example for me in my work. I learned so much from him both in and out of class. He has continued to be a mentor throughout my career. What advice would you give to a current student? Take advantage of all the many opportunities and resources that UWL has to offer. Get involved and go out of your comfort zone to try new experiences and meet new people. Major: Accountancy Manager with RSM US LLP What class or professor did you enjoy the most during your time at UWL and why? I really enjoyed Dr. John Gardner’s tax classes. He really pushed you to be the best that you can be. How did UWL prepare you for your career or shape your goals and ambitions? I received an excellent education at UWL that helped to guide me into an internship with my firm. I am happy to have had a very successful career with that same firm for 25 years now. I was well prepared to begin my career after graduation. What is a fun or interesting fact about you that most people do not know? I married my high school sweetheart. Major: Clinical Laboratory Science Research Technologist at Mayo Clinic What is your favorite spot on campus and why? Old Coate Field. It is where we had band practice, pick-up soccer games, and ultimate Frisbee games. In your opinion, what makes UWL so special? UWL is special for me because, while going through the specific course load for a science major, I was able to find different interests that I did not know I had. For instance, I found out that I like computer science, science fiction reading and band. What is a fun or interesting fact about you that most people do not know? I am a medieval armor enthusiast, and I am making my own chainmail armor. What advice would you give to a current student? Do not be afraid to take a class that is not in your major course load that you are interested in. It may become your new favorite hobby or your full-time job.
