Offices are permitted to close the Friday after Thanksgiving should the entire department or unit vote unanimously to do so, as the result is that certain employee groups will need to utilize paid leave to remain compensated for the closure.
The university has elected to extend the holiday break periods for Christmas and New Year’s Eve to make both weekends a four-day weekend. In-person services will be limited, campus buildings locked, (entry will require the use of your key or keycard), and we will communicate to the community that our offices will be closed. Offices will be permitted to close on December 22, 2023, and December 29, 2023. The result of this action may be that certain employee groups will need to utilize paid leave to remain compensated for the closure. Despite offices being closed to the public, employees who wish to work on these days in lieu of using paid time may do so.
As the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve holidays will produce 2 legal floating holidays, the university encourages employees to utilize their earned legal floating holidays on December 22, 2023, and December 29, 2023.
