‘Songs for a New World’ takes the online stage
The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts will present the musical “Songs for a New World” by Jason Robert Brown. The contemporary collection of songs examines life, love and choices made.
It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice...or take a stand...or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World.
The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown, transports the audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue. There theatregoers meet a startling array of characters who range from a young man determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams — and a soulless marriage.
Tickets are $6 for UWL students; $16 for other students and senior citizens; and $18 for others. Tickets go on sale online Monday, April 19 at www.uwlax.edu/theatre-arts. This is a streamed performance only; no live audiences will be allowed due to COVID-19.
