Norris will present “Unemployment and Identity for Women” as part of the UWL Organization for Campus Women Spring Symposium from 11:30-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Room 3310, Student Union. Admission is $5 at the door, and a light lunch will be provided. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with a silent auction. The presentation begins at noon. RSVP to Karmin Van Domelen at kvandomelen@uwlax.edu by Friday, April 14. Norris, an assistant professor of Sociology, takes both quantitative and qualitative approaches to study the intersections of identity, age, mental health, and work/occupations. Her new book, “Job Loss, Identity, and Mental Health,” published by Rutgers University Press in 2016, examines what losing a job means for people’s identities and how that understanding affects their mental health. Norris has also been published in journals such as Symbolic Interaction, Research on Aging and Teaching Sociology. She lives in La Crosse with her husband and two cats named after sociologists.
